Blue Angels Weekend

For quite sometime the US Navy's Blue Angels have performed over Pensacola Beach on the second weekend in July. Since moving to Gulf Breeze we have been to the beach a couple times to watch them perform, but even if we do not go to the beach we typically get to see and hear some of the Blue Angel aircraft.  Our house seems to be close to a reference point for turning and we often see them fly over our house.

I found a picture on the US Navy's website taken while performing yesterday at Pensacola Beach.  What I liked about this image is that you can see the fishing pier, beach ball water tower and the new observation wheel in the lower right corner.

The Blue Angels were originally formed in 1946 in response to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) Adm Nimitz who envisioned a flight demonstration team to raise public awareness and interest in naval aviation.
