Captivity - Wilderness - Promised Land - Heaven

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. - Phillipians ch4, v6-7

I just finished listening to a couple great sermons by Chris Seidman of Farmers Branch church of Christ. The sermons were originally given January 8th and the 15th of this year. Chris talks about Christians and their spiritual journey and draws a number of very good analogies to the Israelites escape from captivity in Eygpt, their 40 years of wandering in the wilderness and their arrival in the promised land. Chris also makes a very good point that the "Promised Land" is not "Heaven".

One excellent point I took away from these sermons was a comment made about God's promises and the premises behind them. People often quote Phillipians 4:7 "And the peace of God which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus." as a promise from God but they often fail to do their part, the premise, which is in the preceeding verse Phillipians 4:6 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God."

So if you are not enjoying the full experience of God's promise "the peace that passes all understanding" ask yourself "Am I taking everything to God by prayer and supplication?"
