An American View?

"We cannot defend fredom abroad by deserting it at home." - Edward R. Murrow

In the drawing above there are 21 countries outlined. Take a moment and see how many you can name.

Each of these countries is playing an important part in our nations current events and I wonder how many Americans can even name these countries much less speak to their culture, history, religion or politics. Is it reasonable to expect that our American values of life, liberty, justice and freedom will be embraced by these nations? What about Democracy? Is it reasonable to expect a group of people who have for all intents and purposes never experienced these freedoms to embrace them overnight? Social changes are generational in nature and we only need look to our own short history to see that. The end of slavery and the civil rights movement were aftershocks of our own American revolution.

If we cannot identify where countries are can we expect to know anything about their people?
