2014 Advent Season - Week 4

In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. - Luke 2:8-11, NASB

Familiarity is something that each of us must be on guard against in every aspect of our lives. We can become so familiar and so comfortable with what we think we know that our responses, both verbal and mental, can become conditioned and automatic (aka non-thinking). The story surrounding the birth of Christ is one such story and if we are not careful we can lose out. In the verses above did you even pause on verse 9 "..an angel of the Lord suddenly stood before them..." I mean these shepherds saw "an angel of the Lord" and they were terrified. How do you think you would have responded?  Also in verse 11, "...there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.". What does it mean to you to have Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
