Footprints in the Sand

"It doesn't matter where you are coming from. All that matters is where you are going." - Brian Tracy

"The World is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page." - St. Augustine

When the photographer asked us to hold hands and walk into the sunset we all laughed and thought it quite rediculous. This picture actually came out pretty nice in that staged surreal kind of way.

I created my first Web Album using Picasa. To view it select the following link. Beach Photos

Family Beach Pictures

"If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other." - Mother Theresa
August 2006, Navarre Beach, Fl

Well, a few weeks ago The Schermerhorn family finally had the "white shirt, blue jeans, on the beach family photo" taken. Tammy and I have talked for years about doing this and I guess it took Amanda leaving for FSU to prod us to schedule the photographer. This is one of my favorites from the proofs.

Last Saturday we left for Tallahassee, Fl. to go with Amanda to get her settled into her room at the her house. A friend on the girls from the FCC youth group stopped and took this photo right before we headed out. (Thanks Andy!) The trip went well with mom and daughters doing just fine. We were able to see Amanda again yesterday while we were in Tallahassee for a couple soccer matches with Ashley's U-18 Pensacola Futbol Club team. Ashley's team looked pretty good winning both matches.

Flying Away!

"An ounce of practice is worth more than tons of preaching." - Ghandi

"Let your daughter have first of all the book of Psalms for holiness of heart, and be instructed in the Proverbs of Solomon for her godly life." St. Jerome

Well, in less than 48 hours Amanda will be moved into her Southern Scholarship house at FSU and will embark on a new and exciting segment of the expedition that is her life. Many of my friends and family keep asking me how I am doing and my response has been a consistent "I'm fine." Most have followed my answer with a comment about my rather unemotional response. If I get a chance to continue the conversation I point out that Amanda is almost 18, has made very wise decisions thus far in her life, has accepted Christ as her savior and has been a joy and a blessing to me. Sure she still has a lot of growing and maturing to do and there a quite a few new experiences and decisions still to be made but I have faith. Faith that she will continue to seek and discern Gods will for her life. I also pray that when she makes those unwise choices, and she will make some like we all have made, that the consequences will not be negatively life changing.

"Lord, grant that I might not so much seek to be loved as to love." - St. Francis of Assisi

"Start by doing what's necessary; then do what is possible; and suddenly you are doing the impossible." -
St. Francis of Assisi

I came across a link to a pretty amazing video that was posted to YouTube.com and I highly reccomend it if you want to be inspired and have about 5 minutes to spare. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjPrL3n63yg The video really is pretty inspirational in my opinion and is accompanied by one of my favorite songs by Mercy Me. If you are interested you can read about the father & son team shown in the video at their web site Team Hoyt.

School Days

"The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet." - Aristotle

"I have never let my schooling interfere with my education." - Mark Twain

Well the Santa Rosa School system starts their 2006-2007 school year tomorrow. Ashley will be starting her junior year at Gulf Breeze High School. Hard to imagine that fact. Tammy's sister & family moved into Gulf Breeze last weekend and her two children will start at Oriole Beach Elementary where they can see their aunt Tammy, the schools secretary, every morning.

Matthew 18:2-4 "He (Jesus) called a little child and had him stand among them. And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven."
